"THE
ART THIEF is more about the chase and less about the crime. Charney
does not abuse his platform to preach about the criminal aspects, and
the reader will be rewarded by learning a great deal about art history,
especially iconic art.
The shell game continues to the very end. Who are the thieves, and who
are the investigators? THE ART THIEF is a riddle wrapped in
a mystery inside an enigma." --- Roz Shea, The Book Reporter "A very accomplished debut novel with double-bluffs aplenty . . . Charney, an acknowledged crime expert, fills his novel with a great deal of intriguing background detail. Much enjoyed and I look forward to more from Charney." ---Sue Baker, PUBLISHING NEWS
"Noah Charney offers us a masterful thriller filled with revelations" ---Javier Sierra, New York Times bestselling author of The Lady in Blue and The Secret Supper "Charney constructs an intricate web of crime, bolstering a sensational plot with well-crafted characters and extensive research. Eventful and exciting, The Art Thief is an enthralling novel."---Vernon Rapley, head of the Arts & Antiquities Unit, New Scotland Yard "Sleek, sharp, and sophisticated, The Art Thief will steal your spare time---and you'll be happy you were robbed." ---Don Winslow, bestselling author of The Winter of Frankie Machine "A vivid, marvelously readable look at the world of stolen art. The fascinating tale keeps you constantly wondering--does this really happen? Noah Charney knows his stuff." ---Steve Berry, bestselling author of The Alexandria Link "Noah Charney’s first novel is a thrilling, literary page turner as well as a sly primer on the complex underworld of international art bandits. The Art Thief paints portraits of lovers, frauds, innocents and scholars, all presented in Charney’s sharp, fresh voice. This exciting debut establishes young Noah Charney as the curator of crime. " -- Jennifer Finney Boylan, author of She's Not There
During the Second World War, a young Allied Monuments officer intercepts a coded message that suggests that the Nazis are hunting for a lost relic in remote, occupied Slovenia. The officer crosses into hostile territory in order to reach the relic before his Nazi counterpart, but fails to find it. Decades after the war, the officer, now a retired professor, returns to Slovenia to resume the search. He disappears. This is the story of what happened next. What begins as a missing persons investigation in the fairy-tale mountains of Slovenia quickly leads to a twisting treasure hunt through a constellation of the effects of belief in the supernatural, art theft during the Second World War, the occult origins of Nazism, and a shocking revelation about the historical proof of the existence of magic.
